As someone from New Hampshire, I’ve spent many days exploring Boston, which is just a short 50-minute drive away from my home. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate the city’s blend of history, culture, and local charm. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a returning explorer, these are the top 5 things to do in Boston that everyone will love to get a taste of the city.
Catch a Game or Concert at Fenway Park
Watching a Red Sox game at Fenway is a Boston must-do. As the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, Fenway is packed with history, and the Boston energy is unlike anywhere else. Even non-baseball fans will have a great time, enjoying an ice-cold beer, Fenway Franks, and the iconic Green Monster. If there isn’t a game, I’ve also been to concerts at the park, which have been fantastic, or you can take a stadium tour!
Explore the Historic North End
Known as Boston’s Little Italy, the North End is full of rich history, small cobblestone streets, and, of course, THE BEST food. Some of my favorites are Limoncello, Trattoria Il Panino, and Vinoteca di Monica. End your visit with a stop at Mike’s Pastry or Modern Pastry for a classic cannoli and Italian pastry experience.
Walk the Freedom Trail
This 2.5-mile red-brick path winds through Boston’s historic sites, providing a fun way to learn about the city’s role in the American Revolution. Starting at Boston Common, the trail leads past iconic landmarks, including Faneuil Hall and the Massachusetts State House. You can follow the trail independently or join a guided tour for a more in-depth experience.
Visit the Boston Common and Public Garden
Though it’s a popular spot for tourists, the Boston Common and nearby Public Garden are beautiful year-round and perfect for a local stroll. Whether you're relaxing by the pond or taking a ride on the famous Swan Boats in the summer, these parks are where many Bostonians unwind. It's a great place to enjoy the weather, read a book, and people-watch.
Check Out Boston’s Museums
Boston offers a variety of cultural activities, from museums to the aquarium. Art enthusiasts can explore the Museum of Fine Arts and the unique Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, while history lovers can check out the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum. The New England Aquarium is also a must-see, where you can discover marine life up close. For families, the Boston Children's Museum offers a fun, interactive experience. No matter what catches your interest, Boston has something for everyone—be sure to plan and find the best activities that suit you!
Boston is a city that blends history, culture, and modern charm, offering plenty of activities for all kinds of visitors. Whether you're exploring its historic streets, enjoying the local food scene, or exploring it’s local museums and parks, there's something special for everyone! Enjoy, and leave a comment if you have any recommendations for this wonderful city.
